Thali under airport security scanner

A CISF woman sub-inspector’s demand that a woman employee of Airports Authority of India remove her thali (mangalsutra) as part of body check at Chennai airport turned nasty with AAI employees picketing the manager’s cabin.

According to airport sources, CISF SI Chitra frisked Murugammal, an AAI employee, at the domestic terminal.

Chitra then noticed that the handheld bomb detection device emanated a warning signal. She wanted to check Murugammal’s thali and Murugammal says she held it in her hand for Chitra to check it.

“I have been working here for many years and nobody has so far asked me to remove my thali for checking,” complained Murugammal. Offiicials have decided to shift Chitra and check the CCTV footage to get facts.
