Threat to blow up CBI office in Chennai
An anonymous hoax call received at the CBI office in Sastri Bhavan on Haddows Road threatening of a bomb explosion kept the police on their toes on Tuesday morning.
The call, which landed at the office of the anti-corruption branch office of CBI early Tuesday morning, was later traced to a disgruntled employee of a central security agency stationed in Puducherry.
The caller, who spoke in Hindi with a trace of Tamil, told the CBI inspector who attended the call that a bomb would explode in the office.
Based on this, the CBI sought the help of a bomb detection squad from local police to conduct a search at the Sastri Bhavan premises.
After checking the premises, the squad told the CBI that the call was a hoax as there was no explosive in the building.
“He (the central security agency employee) seems to be depressed. If he is not happy with his department, he should show it there. We don’t expect central government employees to indulge in making hoax calls. We have suggested departmental action against the particular man,” an official from the city police said.
