TNPSC exam mela: 12L applicants, 5,000 centres
In what could clearly be the largest government recruitment initiative, the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is holding group IV exams across the state in 5,000 centres for over 12 lakh applicants on Sunday.
The TNPSC had called for this exam to fill 10,718 vacancies for posts like bill collector, typist, field surveyor and draftsman, and was flooded with applications this April even from Tamils working in other states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Though the qualification is SSLC pass, several graduates and postgraduates have applied. There are cases where almost all family members are taking up the exam. The salary package would range from Rs5,000 to Rs20,000, depending on the post.
K. Gowthami, a BA (English) graduate in Coimbatore, said, “All my three sisters are taking this exam. We have prepared well and are confident of success in the exam. We hope to get jobs as the number of vacancies is high,” she said.
TNPSC chairman R. Natraj told DC, “This will be the largest exam conducted ever in the state. We have ensured that the exam is conducted in a transparent manner and appointed 650 flying squads to check various centres. All the collectors have been asked to visit the exam halls.”
He said he has informed the government departments to alert the commission about vacancies and, if needed, special exams would be conducted to fill up the vacancies.
