Traders to down shutters on May 5
The shops and business establishments will be closed on May 5 when the traders observe Trader’s Day.
The rally in Chennai will give a call to fight against FDI in retail sector and insist upon promoting Swadeshi goods in the state. President of the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation T. Vellaiyan will preside over the Chennai rally.
Announcement for a new society to market Swadeshi products is likely to be made at the conference here.
According to sources in the TN Traders Federation, over five lakh persons are expected to participate in the state-level conference to be held in Dindigul.
The traders would discuss the Central government's move to introduce foreign direct investment in retail trading.
The meet is likely to oppose the enactment of the Food Security Bill in the present form and also express its opposition to the implementation of goods and service tax act.
The leaders from All India Traders Samelan including P. C. Bhatia would address the conference. The leaders from various states too would participate and address the gathering.
"We expect about five lakh traders to take part in the conference to show our solidarity in opposing the Central government's policies that affect the livelihood of the retail traders," a source said.
All the shops and business establishments will remain closed on May 5. Arrangements are on to conduct the conference on a massive scale.
