Trailer drivers call off strike at Chennai port
The trailer drivers called off their strike at Chennai port on Friday evening, after the police released five vehicles carrying containers with mismatch in numbers mentioned on the containers and those in the documents.
While the shipping lines provided proper documents to validate the mismatch in numbers, the Chennai port authorities too have given assurance to police on sorting out the problem.
On Wednesday evening, the drivers began a strike after CISF officials seized and handed over seven vehicles to police citing mismatch in the numbers.
While two vehicles were released on Thursday, the remaining were let off on Friday after relevant documents were produced.
“About 300 cargo loaded vehicles have been stranded inside the port, while about 1,500 trailers are on road waiting to discharge export cargo into the port and load import cargo,” said Chennai Customs House Clearance Agents Association president A.V. Vijayakumar.
