Woman moves HC against lover
A 26-year-old woman, who was allegedly betrayed by her lover, an IPS trainee officer, has approached the Madras high court to direct the police to receive the inquiry report from the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) and take appropriate action on her complaint against him.
Justice S. Nagamuthu before whom the petition filed by G. Priyadarshini came up for hearing, directed the DSWO to submit the inquiry report and posted to April 12 further hearing of the case.
S. Prabakaran, counsel for Priyadarshini, submitted that she became friendly with Varun Kumar in 2007 in a IAS Academy. Both appeared for civil service examination 2010. She could not clear the preliminary exam, but Varun did.
At Varun’s request, Priyadarshini did not make a second attempt and helped him prepare for the final. Varun and his family members promised her that he would marry her.
At a function in Hyderabad, Varun’s family also declared that Varun was going to marry Priyadarshini. However, after Varun was posted as IPS trainee he and his family members changed their attitude.
When Priyadarshini lodged a complaint, police failed to register a case. She then approached the Madras high court, which dismissed her petition after recording the submission of the police that action would be taken after receiving a report from the DSWO before whom the dispute was referred.
However, till date no report was submitted by the DSWO. Moreover, the dispute was not a matrimonial dispute because she and Varun were not married.
Varun has committed offences such as criminal breach of trust, dowry harassment, cheating, cyber crimes, threat to life, outraging the woman’s modesty and hence it was not a matrimony dispute, Prabakaran said.
