Aravindh stuns third seed in Lucknow chess
Tamil Nadu’s Aravindh Chithambaram stunned third seed and International Master Prasanna Raghuram Rao of Maharashtra 5-4 in the fifth round of the Dr KL Garg Memorial national junior Under-19 chess championship in Lucknow.
Fide Master Aravindh, who is seeded fifth at the event, collected four points for the win.
Delhi boy Prince Bajaj, 11th seed, and Vikash Nr of Tamil Nadu were the others to enter the sixth round in the boys’ category. Bajaj beat Sayan Bose 3.5-3, while Vikash defeated Fide Master Harshal Shahi of Delhi 4-3.
In the girls’ section, fifth seed Michelle Catherina P. of Tamil Nadu lived up to the expectaions, breezing past state mate and seventh seed Mahalaxmi M. 5-4 to enter the next round.
