‘I feel Miami is lucky for me’

Priyanka Chopra is not just emerging as a versatile actress; she seems to be scaling similar heights in the field of music as well. After creating a splash with her debut single In My City, Priyanka is being touted as India’s answer to pop star Jennifer Lopez. The actress, however, insists that she still is as simple as a girl-next-door. But PC is certainly ecstatic about the way things are turning out for her and says this is just the beginning.
All her time is taken up by back-to-back film shoots and music recordings, but Priyanka refuses to slow down. “I don’t like to take a break from my work because this is what I enjoy doing. My work is my passion and that’s what keeps me going,” she says. She may be one of the top three actresses in the industry today, but Priyanka says that she doesn’t indulge in an extravagant lifestyle. “My family is my support system. I don’t feel the need to splurge on expensive things for myself because they do it all the time,” PC says.
Being the first choice of almost all the top banners in the industry, Priyanka has a great line-up for the current and the next year. Right now she is very upbeat about playing Mary Kom in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next. “I have a few great films coming up this year and the beginning of next year,” she says. But does her passion for films leave her with enough time to devote to music? She says, “No, it doesn’t. But I’m not complaining. I have grown up with music and that’s what keeps me occupied.” While several international music stars have milk-shakes named after them, would PC like to join the bandwagon? “It would be a great opportunity. I have decided to call it ‘Exotic’ but I’m yet to decide what it will taste like. Since it has to reflect my personality, it will have a desi element. I am still working on the ingredients and I should very soon have the details,” she says.
Her latest video with Pitbull has been partly styled by her. “I believe style is inherent. I do try to incorporate a few aspects of my personal style in my work because it has to do justice to my personality. I thoroughly enjoyed making the video,” she says with a smile.
The video has been shot in Miami. “Personally, I feel that Miami is extremely lucky for me. I had shot for Dostana there with John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan and the film was a hit. I hope I get the same response for my album Exotic with Pitbull,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
