Nidhi happy to be a newcomer

Ileana D’Cruz’s impressive performance in Barfi has made it quite apparent that the southern superstar will enjoy a good run in Bollywood. Close on her heels comes Nidhi Subbaiah, another popular name down South, who plays leading lady in Ajab Gazabb Love opposite Jackky Bhagnani. Even though she’s been acting for three years with around 10 films to her credit, Nidhi doesn’t mind being treated as a newcomer in B-town.
“I understand that when it comes to Hindi films, I need to start from scratch. I can’t rest on my laurels just because I have acted in 10 films and earned a good name for myself. That would be wrong. I think it’s fair to receive the treatment reserved for a newcomer,” she asserts.
While the musical romcom is keeping her busy these days, Nidhi admits to not having anything planned for later. “That’s just the way I am,” she laughs, adding, “I know it sounds clichéd to say that I’m exploring my options, but that’s exactly how it is for me. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even plan to be where I am right now. Having said that, I know that Ajab Gazabb Love will connect with all age groups since it is a romcom.”
Since the film has been directed by Sanjay Gadhvi of Dhoom fame, Nidhi is happy that her glamorous image has been brought to the fore in the film.
“Sanjay has presented Aishwarya and Bipasha so beautifully in Dhoom 2 that I wasn’t worried about my look on screen. In fact, a few weeks before I started shooting for the film, Sanjay sir and I sat down with the stylists and finalised the costumes. It was very sweet on his part to do that,” she says.
How conservative or liberal is she when it comes to skin show? “I would be comfortable doing anything,” she replies, adding, “I learned quite early in my career in the South that at the end of the day, I am an actor and can’t have too many reservations. Acting and looking good earns me my bread and butter after all.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
