3 killed as RTV overturns, bus mows down 2
New Delhi, Feb. 3: While 17-year-old Pradeep Tiwari’s father, Dev Mitr Tiwari, a cancer patient, was living in the hope of seeing his son become a graduate, little did he know that the fate would be different. At around 8.15 am on Wednesday, a tyre of the Harsh Vihar-ISBT route RTV (mini bus), Pradeep was travelling in to reach his school, burst in Majnu Ka Tila area and it turned turtle. The accident left three, including Pradeep, dead and 17 others injured. All the injured were rushed to the nearby Sushruta Trauma Centre. Meanwhile, the driver of the bus, managed to escape after the accident.According to the police officers who reached the spot,
“The bus, which was carrying over 20 passengers, overturned reportedly because its tyre burst. The driver lost control of the bus after its tyre burst and it overturned.”Out of the 17 injured, the official said, eight are students. An eyewitness said the rear tyre of the mini bus burst and the driver lost control over the vehicle and then it overturned. Investigating officers recovered an empty liquor bottle from the bus however, it is too early to say if the driver was under influence of alcohol, said a senior police officer.Police officers present at the spot claimed that they rushed all the injured to the Sushruta Trauma Centre where three people were declared dead while 17 others were injured.Two of the deceased have been identified as Pradeep Tiwari and Mona, both students of Ludlow Castle School. Pradeep was a resident of the trans-Yamuna area, said the police. “We are yet to identify the third victim, a man who appears to be aged between 25-30,” added the police officers.The police officers have also confirmed that eight children injured in the accident are students of Jain Public School, Ludlow Castle School and Rastogi Public School in Daryaganj area of central Delhi. Meanwhile, the investigating officers said that they have tip-off about the driver and he will soon be arrested. Officers also pointed out that the initial investigations have made the police believe that the accident happened due to driver’s negligence.
