Bajaj Jan. sales rise over 100%

Pune, Feb. 2: Bajaj Auto has recorded an over 100 per cent rise in sales of its two- and three-wheelers in January, to 2.66 lakh units against 1.32 lakh units a year ago in the same month.

While motorcycle sales rose 112 per cent, to 2.32 lakh units as compared to 1.09 lakh units in the same period last year. Three wheeler sales rose to 32,969 units against 21,985 units in the same period last year. Exports rose a healthy 33 per cent, to 71,695 units from 54,027 units.

Bajaj Auto managing director, Mr Rajiv Bajaj, stated that 70 per cent of all Bajaj Auto bikes belong in the sportier and heavier category, based on with the sales of the Pulsar and Discover bikes. "Bajaj Auto’s market share rose from approximately 21 per cent in January 09 to approximately 32 per cent in January 2010," he said.

The company’s year to date sales also rose, total two- and three-wheeler sales recording a growth of 22 per cent, to 23.09 lakh units (18.86 units). Bajaj Auto had recorded a near three-fold increase in net profit at Rs 475 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2009. — PTI
