Boards agree on common curriculum
New Delhi, Feb. 16: A majority of school boards on Tuesday agreed on the implementation of a common curriculum for science and mathematics in Classes 11 and 12 from 2011.
The boards also decided to work out a common entrance test for admission into higher courses, including engineering and medicine, from 2013. This newspaper had first reported on Tuesday that COBSE, the apex body of school boards, was likely to take a decision on a common curriculum for science and maths for Classes 11 and 12.
Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal said that the government aims to implement a common curriculum for the science stream in 2011. He said that a common curriculum will give a level playing field to all students.
