BSNL staff seek change in board
UPSET BY the deteriorating market share and falling revenues, the employees’ associations of BSNL have sought the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh’s intervention and demanded change in the management and induction of professionals in the Board to run the PSU. "We have written to the Prime Minister’s Office to look into the matter among other things.
There is absence of professional management at the Board level at BSNL," the president of All India Graduate Engineer Telecom Officers Association, Mr NJP Shilohu Rao, said.
The association represents over 10,000 professionals consisting of engineers and professionals at BSNL.

Boeing to deliver 9 aircraft
BOEING ON Tuesday said it will deliver nine aircrafts to Indian firms, including Air India, this year. Other airlines scheduled to receive planes from Boeing include private-carriers Jet Lite, Jet Airways and SpiceJet, Boeing India president, Mr Dinesh Keskar, said.
At present, Boeing has a backlog of 85 aircraft from Indian companies, which will be delivered over the next 4-5 years Mr Keskar said. Boeing expects to deliver the first Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft to Air India in the second-quarter of 2011, he said.
The plane-maker has not received fresh orders from Indian firms in the past 18-months, Mr Keskar said, adding that he expects two orders next month.

Jet eyes 9% sales from cargo biz
With some of its leased-out aircraft to return over the next two years, Jet Airways is targeting an average 8-9 per cent revenue from its cargo business by using these additional aircraft, a senior Jet Airways official said here on Tuesday. "Currently, we have 12 per cent revenue from our international carriage and 4 per cent from domestic. We expect this to go up to 15 per cent and 5-6 per cent, respectively, over two years," Jet Airways vice-president Mr Jay Shelat, said. On an average, the company is looking at an 8-9 per cent revenue contribution from cargo carriage, he added. Cargo business growth would come on the back of an increased demand, both domestic and international.

Siemens bets big on India
TECHNOLOGY MAJOR Siemens on Tuesday said it will invest Rs 1,600 crore in India over the next three years for venturing into wind turbine manufacturing and scaling up existing production capacity. Of the total investment, Rs 500 crore would be used for setting up a high-end technology wind turbine manufacturing facility in the country. "We will venture into wind turbine manufacturing ... we have identified 2-3 sites in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat and we are in discussions with the respective state governments for setting up the wind turbine plant ... we will decide on the exact location in 2-3 weeks," Siemens managing director (India), Mr Armin Bruck,
said.
