Call for bandh in 3 districts
JHARGRAM, Feb. 2: The People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCPA) has called for an indefinite bandh in three Maoist-affected districts of West Bengal to protest the alleged killing of two of their supporters by joint-security forces in Barikul in Bankura on Monday.
The bandh had affected majorly the Khatra sub-division in Bankura and Jhargram sub-division in West Midnapore, including the Maoist-affected areas like Belpahari, Lalgarh, Salboni Dharampur, Ranibandh, Simlapal, Sarenga etc. PCPA spokes person Asit Mahato claimed that the bandh was successful. Sources claimed that a marriage party was stopped at Manickpara under Kotwali police station and four of their vehicles were set on fire.
Meanwhile, according to sources, six persons — Amar Hembram, Sujit Tudu, Urmila Murmur, Sanathan Murmur, Arati Majhi and Gangadhar Hazra — who were arrested on Monday by the police were produced at the Barikul district Sources added that Urmila and Gagadhar have been slapped with 10 days of police custody.
