Congress avoids Telangana issue
New Delhi, Jan. 25: The Congress on Monday managed to keep the Telangana issue out of the limelight as leaders of different political parties from Andhra Pradesh came to the national capital to take part in the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Election Commission.
Praja Rajyam Party founder Chiranjeevi had earlier said on arriving at the capital that he would met alliance partners of the Congress as party of his campaign for "United Andhra Pradesh". The actor-turned politician said he had sought an appointment with Trinamul Congress leader and railway minister Mamata Bannerjee and Union agriculture minister and NCP leader Sharad Pawar to discuss the issue.
The Congress, which was not so happy with the developments, convinced both its alliance partners not to meet the PRP leader at this juncture as it would create a political storm. Chiranjeevi then left the national capital without meeting any other leader.
The Telugu Desam Party parliamentary party leader Nama Nageswara Rao after the function told mediapersons, that it was the responsibility of the Congress to solve the Telangana issue.
"The party stand is very clear. We will live as brothers and separate as brothers. The Congress created this problem and it should solve it," he said.
Meanwhile, the Congress from Telangana MLAs Jana Reddy and Damodar Reddy arrived in the national capital to meet senior Congress leaders on the Telangana issue and press the Centre to take the next step on the consultation process over the Telangana issue. Other Telangana MLAs are expected on Tuesday.
