Former ONGC chief passes away
New Delhi, Feb. 1: Subir Raha, arguably the most influential former chairman of the government-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, died of lung cancer here on Monday.
He was 62. Raha, who was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, fell critically ill a week ago and was undergoing treatment, his family said.
He died at around 3.22 pm. A workaholic Raha is credited in making ONGC India’s largest oil and gas producer.
He is also credited for single handedly driving ONGC’s vertical integration by acquiring Mangalore Refinery and aggressively pursuing overseas forays that was unseen after his unceremonious exit.
Raha had also served as the director of IOC, where he began his career as a trainee in 1970. — PTI
