Fraser’s soulful music takes on the world
Band: Fraser Gregorywww.frasergregory.com / www.myspace.com/frasermusic / twitter.com/frasergregoryMy little sister alerted me to this folk-pop group, largely (I accused her) on the strength of the lead singer’s soulful eyes, poet’s mouth and tender way of playing the guitar on Hampstead Heath (look up the videos on YouTube) because the sound quality on those recordings is quite bad.
Having said that, whatever I’ve managed to hear of Fraser Gregory (lead singer’s name, also name of the band) is mellow, gorgeous and begs for a long road trip with the CD stuck on loop. He’s on to something, it’s easy, folksy guitar with enough bite occasionally to make it real. Beautiful, Find Love and Old Tree are great introductions to the kind of music they make. The group is London based, but Fraser is of Scottish descent and was brought up in Malta where his mother swears he was a Don Maclean fan even in-utero. The band’s slightly pretentious bio on their website reads “Fraser moved on to wander the Earth… during which time he discovered a ‘well of inspiration’ energising him to translate and share his personal experiences through his medium of music.” Seriously? It may be something they will grow out of as they get famous. And they will get famous. They start touring early this year to promote their debut album A Garden At the Top of The Tree for the new music label, Moody Noodle. They’re already gathering a very telling buzz though only in their locales so get on this bandwagon now.
