Full credit to bowlers, says Dhoni
Dhaka, Jan. 27: India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave credit to his bowlers, pace spearhead Zaheer Khan in particular, for their quick win in the second Test and a 2-0 series sweep at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium here on Wednesday.
Zaheer, whose closing burst of four wickets off nine balls without conceding a run, slammed the door abruptly on the Tigers’ second innings fightback. “It was a difficult task to get wickets on this track, both for spinners and pacers. But all credit goes to the bowlers. They really put their best to get those 20 wickets, especially Zaheer’s spell,” Dhoni said following India’s 10-wicket victory.“The wicket was slowing up and the ball getting older. It was also keeping low. So we felt we had a chance of getting some leg before decisions as the ball was reverse-swinging and decided to give Zaheer a longer spell. He responded superbly,”
Zaheer was adjudged both the man of the match and the man of the series. “Credit also goes to Ojha who took that one wicket of Ashraful at a crucial time,” Dhoni added.
He also sounded a note of caution given the number of players who had picked up injuries recently, particularly with South Africa arriving within a week.
“The series was full of injuries so I am a bit worried. But with the amount of cricket that we play these days, it’s OK.
“I just hope Laxman and Yuvraj Singh are fit before the South Africa series,” he added, indicating that Rahul Dravid was probably already out of the scheme of things with a cracked jaw.
