Govt to sell 7 pulses at cheap rates
Feb. 4: Delhi government has decided to check adherence to MRP, correctness of weights and measurement at retail shops, besides selling seven varieties of pulses, rice at 385 outlets of Mother Dairy, Kendriya Bhandar and NCCF centres at cheaper rates.
Delhi food and civil supplies minister Haroon Yusuf on Thursday announced that the wholesalers have agreed to make available seven varieties of pulses at cheaper rates, which would be sold from February 10. Rice would also be sold in 1 kg packs at these outlets.
The minister said that his department has intensified raids against hoarders in the capital to bring down the prices of essential commodities.
The food and civil supplies commissioner Jaishree Raghuraman stated that NAFED would be selling onion at Rs 16 a kg and sugar at Rs 41 a kg from Friday and Saturday, respectively, in the capital.

16-yr maid held captive in S. Delhi

Feb. 4: A railway ministry employee has been detained by Sarojini Nagar police following a complaint by a 16-year-old domestic help hailing from Jharkhand who alleged that she was locked in the bathroom of his residence.
The teenaged girl was employed at the residence of railway ministry official Prashant Mandal. She told the police that Mandal and his wife Pinki used to beat her up. "On Tuesday, I wanted to go home. When I told them, they locked me in the bathroom. I managed to flee on Tuesday afternoon and approached an NGO," the victim said.
