Heavy influx of fake currency
New Delhi, Feb. 2: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has witnessed a heavy influx of fake currency notes in the past one month and as many as three FIRs have been registered at the Parliament Street police station in this regard since January.
Though the additional commissioner of police (New Delhi range) S. Dash refused to comment, the FIRs registered at the Parliament Street police station state that fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination have been recovered in large numbers.
RBI manager S.S. Bagga said, "It is a matter of huge concern but there is not much which can be done."
Mr Bagga said that they have handed the fake notes to the police for investigation. Meanwhile, the Parliament Street police station officers, who are investigating the case said that the notes look real and it is hard to identify them.
Officers added, "We had to take help of government’s note manufacturing unit in Devas, Madhya Pradesh, to identify the fake currency. They said that currency amounting to several lakhs was sent to MP to identify fake notes. Reliable sources confirmed that the matter may be transferred to a more specialised branch for further investigation.
