Honda dumps India for Thai
New Delhi, Feb. 5: Japanese carmaker Honda will make Thailand the export hub for its upcoming small car, according to a top official of its Indian subsidiary.
The company’s Indian subsidiary Honda Siel Cars India, is gearing up to launch the small car in the country in 2011, but will be focusing on the domestic market.
"India was never meant to be the export hub for the (small) car. India was meant to be the lead country in the manner the car is being designed for India just like Japan is the lead country for the Jazz and the US is the lead market for the Accord," Honda Siel Cars India vice president, Mr Jnaneshwar Sen, said.
He said the company’s Indian plants at Greater Noida and subsequently Tapukara (Rajasthan) will make the car for the domestic market.
"Of course there will be some export, mainly to neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh, just like we do now for our other models."
Mr Sen said Honda’s two plants in Thailand will also produce the small car and they would be used for exports to neighbouring countries. — PTI
