India, Russia call for action against terror
Nov. 9: India and Russia were on the same page on the issue of terrorist threat emanating from the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and stressed the need for consolidated global action against the menace.
External affairs minister S.M. Krishna and Russian deputy prime minister Sergei Sobyanin shared the view that drug trafficking is a major source of funds for terrorists and stressed the need for crackdown on it.
Both the leaders underlined the need for early ratification of Comprehensive Convention against International Terrorism (CCIT) by the UN so that the legal framework could compel member countries to crack down on the international scourge.
Sobyanin also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed his visit to Moscow early December.
The two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral ties and agreed on the need to give a push to cooperation in civil nuclear, IT and pharmaceuticals sectors and boost trade and investment while working to resolve amicably the issue of Rupee debt.
Focusing on terrorism, Mr Krishna drew Mr Sobyanin’s attention to two attacks on the Indian embassy in Kabul.
