Indian dies, 7 rescued from pirates

Ahmedabad ,  April 6: Eight Indian sailors on board a dhow hijacked by Somali pirates last month were rescued by the US and Oman navies, but one of them died as he jumped into the sea fearful of getting hurt, shipping sources said Tuesday.

Kutch Vahanvati Association chief Kasam Ali Bholim said the vessel Faiz-E-Osmani, hijacked on March 28, was rescued by a joint US-Omani naval operation.
“The navies searching for the pirates near the Somali coast, spotted the vessel and cautioned the sailors to take cover before the rescue operation began,” Mr Bholim said.
The pirates had earlier this month released two of the eight vessels from Gujarat hijacked in last week of March.
