Jindal inks deal with Toshiba
CHENNAI, Feb. 1: Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Sajjan Jindal promoted JSW Energy and Japan-based Toshiba Corporation announced the setting up of a plant that would manufacture super-critical steam turbines and generators for thermal power plants in India.
The new plant, which will be set up by 2014, involves investments of around Rs 800 crore. Toshiba Group will hold 75 per cent stake in the company, while JSW Energy and JSW Steel will have 20 per cent and five per cent respectively.
Elaborating on the new venture, Mr Itaru Ishibashi, managing director, Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator Pvt Ltd, said that over the next five years the partners would invest around Rs 800 crore.
" The first phase of the production would commence on January 2011. Initially the unit will produce STG Parts and by 2012 it would start manufacturing STG sets," he said adding that by 2014 they would achieve production capability of 3,000-mega watt (MW) per annum.
Mr Atsuhiko Izumi, executive officer, said the JV partners would manufacture and market mid to large sized steam turbines and generators ranging from 500 MW to 1000 MW for efficient super-critical thermal power plants in India.
He added that Keihin operators, Toshiba’s power equipment production facility at Yokohama would help Toshiba JSW in ramping up manufacturing and establishing the facility at Chennai.
