Kiwis ride on Oram fireworks
Napier, Feb. 5: A superb all-round display by Jacob Oram helped New Zealand crush Bangladesh by 146 runs in the first one-day international at Napier on Friday.
Oram smashed the Bangladesh attack in his quickfire 83 off only 40 balls before going on to scalp two wickets as the tourists slumped to a heavy defeat. Battling at 135/5 in the 27th over, Oram’s big-hitting powered the Kiwis to 336/9.
Skipper Daniel Vettori then claimed 3/33, Martin Guptill picked up 2/7 and Oram backed up his batting with 2/33 as the visitors were bowled out for 190.
Bangladesh’s reply got off to a good start, as opening pair Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes put on 71 for the first wicket, but once Kayes (33) was caught by Brendon McCullum off Andy McKay the momentum was lost.
