Missing CPM leader’s body found in lake?
Chennai ,Feb. 21: The wife of Marxist leader W.R. Varadharajan on Sunday confirmed that the body recovered from Porur Lake was that of her husband, who had gone missing on February 11 evening following some serious differences with her and the consequent divesting of party positions.
However, his two sisters and stepson were not sure about the identity of the body, kept at the Royapettah government hospital morgue since February 13, and they demanded that a DNA test be done to establish facts, according to the police.Age Correspondent***Engineer quits after threats by BSP MLA Amita VermaLucknowFeb. 21: A UP irrigation department executive engineer, posted in Etawah, has written to chief minister Mayawati accusing a BSP MLA of threatening him with dire consequences.The engineer asked to be relieved from his post before any “untoward incident” took place. The Mayawati government has ordered an inquiry into the engineer’s allegations against a BSP legislator, a government spokesman said. Principal secretary (irrigation) K.S. Atoria will conduct an inquiry into the allegations levelled by engineer Shiv Das against the BSP MLA. The secretary has been asked to summon the engineer and ascertain all the details, to enable the government to take a proper decision on the matter.The incident appears to be a frightening replay of the 2008 one in which a BSP MLA had lynched an PWD engineer when the latter refused to contribute to the chief minister’s birthday fund.
