Mumbai: Bodies of 3 infants found
Mumbai, Jan. 27: In a shocking case of female infanticide, the dead bodies of three infant girls were found in Virar — an upcoming township in the outskirts of Mumbai within a span of 48 hours on Wednesday.
The police has now started a massive search operation and is investigating to find out if the infants were dumped by parents living in the township itself or whether Virar was soon becoming a dumping ground for victims of female infanticide. In the first incident on Monday, two female foetuses were found lying in the shallow seas of Navapur Beach in Virar.
The police believes that the two foetuses might have been twins, but said that the doctors would be in a better position to comment. According to the Virar police, a team of police that was patrolling the area was notified by witnesses after which the police was called in at around 6 pm in the evening. The police rushed the infants to a hospital, but both were declared dead on arrival. “Many people visit the sea for their evening walks. During this time, few witnesses spotted the dead corpses of two newly-born infants,” said sub-inspector Suresh Manore from the Virar police station.
