Pak tracks ex-Army links in case
Islamabad ,March 4: Pakistani investigators are searching for four retired military officials who were allegedly involved in the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, official sources said. This is the first time that investigators are probing the possibility of the involvement of Pakistan Army soldiers in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
Interior ministry officials said the missing soldiers are retired Army personnel who were among the eight Army soldiers related to the main accused and a proclaimed offender in the case.
“The four military personnel had disappeared just before the assassination of the former Prime Minister,” a Pakistan interior ministry official said. Interior ministry officials disclosed that investigators are facing difficulties in determining the exact status of these soldiers and so far no record had been provided.
“The four other soldiers are still serving in the Army. These four Army personnel had never been mentioned in the legal proceedings before the anti-terrorist court in Rawalpindi,” an official said.
A UN commission constituted to probe the assassination is expected to submit its report by the end of March.
