PC assures security for every player

Jammu, Feb. 17: Union home minister P. Chidam-baram on Wednesday asserted that India will not be deterred by the threat by Illyas Kashmiri, the Pakistan-based commander of the Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami, having close ties with the Al Qaeda, to attack India and target major sporting events.

When his attention was brought to the threat by Illyas Kashmiri to target upcoming international sports events in the country, Mr Chidambaram replied: "We cannot be deterred and we’re not deterred by what Illyas Kashmiri has said. The government will provide full protection to every player, every coach or every official, who participates in forthcoming hockey, cricket and Commonwealth Games."
