Pink Floyd sues EMI for royalties

London: Legendary rockers Pink Floyd have launched a legal battle to stop their songs being sold individually on iTunes and other Internet music sites.

The band wants to exercise creative control and are trying to force their record company EMI to sell only complete albums, as they are meant to be heard as “seamless” pieces of music, reported Daily Mail online.
EMI has allowed the band’s songs to be downloaded individually following the emergence of MP3 players and the Apple iPod in recent years.
But Pink Floyd, who are responsible for three of the biggest-selling albums of all time, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and Wish You Were Here, are trying to put a stop to this in the high court. The band’s lawyer Robert Howe argued that a contractual clause “expressly prohibited” the selling of tracks, either physically or online.

Papaya can help prevent cancer too
Washington:  Rich in vitamins, folate, fibre and potassium, the papaya is often called a “nutritional masterpiece”. Now scientists claim to have found evidence that the humble fruit can prevent cancer too.
An international team, led by Nam Dang of University of Florida, has documented papaya’s dramatic anticancer effect against a broad range of lab-grown tumours, including cancers of the cervix, breast, liver, lung and pancreas.
For their research, the scientists used an extract made from dried papaya leaves, and the anticancer effects were stronger when cells received larger doses of the tea. The team has also documented for the first time that papaya leaf extract boosts the production of key signalling molecules called Th1-type cytokines.          —PTI
