PM warns of need to check price rise

New Delhi, Feb. 1: Highlighting the major problems confronting the nation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said terrorism and insurgency need to be tackled with a "firm and yet sensitive manner" as this was a pre-requisite to rapid economic growth.

Inaugurating the two-day annual conference of chief secretaries on Monday, Dr Singh also spoke about food security. "The comfort over India’s food security is somewhat misplaced and both, the availability and controlling prices, remain challenges which need the focused attention of the government at all levels," he said. , reminding the participating administrators of the importance of their role.
