Sajjan is missing, PSO suspended
New Delhi,Feb. 25: Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, facing charges over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, is allegedly missing from his residence for
the past one week. His personal security officer, Ram Niroha, told officials on February 19 Kumar had gone missing from his 16 Ashoka Road residence in New Delhi. The police ordered Niroha’s suspension and an inquiry will be held. The suspension orders were issued by deputy commissioner of police (security) Ajay Singh. "It was the responsibility of Niroha to keep an eye on the movements of Kumar. We are looking into the matter very seriously, and action will be taken if needed," a senior police officer said.
The CBI, which is investigating the riots case involving Kumar, had failed to arrest him even after a local court issued a non-bailable warrant against him on February 17. The court had directed the CBI to produce Kumar before it at the next hearing.
The CBI told the court on Tuesday that it failed to execute the arrest warrant as Kumar, who gets Z-plus security, could not be located despite four raids being conducted at his residence. This prompted the judge to criticise the investigating agency for "not being serious" in apprehending the Congress leader.Age Correspondent
