Schools to be closed for Games
New Delhi, Feb. 15: The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved an extended autumn holiday for government-run schools in a bid to ease traffic congestion in the national capital during the Commonwealth Games. The autumn break in schools will be extended from
eight to 17 days while the summer break would be shortened from 61 days to 49.
The Delhi Cabinet decided that the autumn break would start from October 1 and will continue till October 17. The Commonwealth Games is being hosted in the city from October 3 till October 14.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit stated that re-scheduling of school holidays for 2010-11 has been approved keeping in view ensuing Commonwealth Games 2010. She added that it will also help smooth the hosting of the Games.
As per the new schedule, the total number of working days in 2010-11 would be 218 days.
