SUV hits labourers, 2 die
New Delhi ,March 26: Six labourers were run over by a speeding SUV in south Delhi’s Saket area. Two men died and three others were injured while the driver of the SUV managed to speed away.
The police suspects the driver was drunk. Police sources said the incident took place on M.B. Road in Saket area where a group of 20 labourers were renovating the pavement. A speeding SUV hit six labourers at the site, killing Domi Sada and Vinod Sada, both residents of Bihar, and injuring four others. The driver, who has not yet been identified, managed to escape, leaving the bleeding men at the site.
The police was informed by a labourer at around 00.30 am Friday. The six men were immediately rushed to AIIMS hospital where two were declared dead while the condition of three is stated to be critical. One man was discharged after primary medication.
"We saw the car from some distance and it was moving at a dangerous speed. The car was swinging from one side of the road to another. But before we could escape safely, the car hit six of our men who were on the pavement that was being repaired, crushing four of them," Subodh, a labourer who witnessed the accident, said. He said the driver sped away from the site.
The police suspects the driver was inebriated and couldn’t control the SUV. "A case of negligent driving has been registered at Saket police station and a special team is on the lookout for the car and its driver, who is on the run," a senior police official said.
