Traffic constable injured by speeding car
New Delhi, Jan. 31: A businessman allegedly ran over a head constable of the Delhi police to avoid challan when he tried to stop him for jumping red light in the Shalimar Bagh area of northwest Delhi on Saturday afternoon.
The police officials said the head constable identified as Jagpal Singh was seriously injured when he tried to stop the businessman who was identified as one Manoj as he jumped red light at a traffic signal near Richie Ritch in Shalimar Bagh at around 3.35 pm on Saturday. Mr Singh, along with two constables were at the traffic signal and when they spotted the vehicle jumping a red-light, Mr Singh tried to stop it.“Jagpal jumped on to the bonnet holding viper and tried to stop the vehicle. However the businessman did not stop and dragged the head constable for few hundred metres after which he fell down and suffered injuries in his legs,” a senior police official said.The police said constable Balvinder, who was accompanying Jagpal, immediately called up the police control room. Manoj was arrested by Balvinder after a brief chase. Jagpal was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is reported to be stable. The police has also confiscated the vehicle involved in the accident.“During interrogations, Manoj, a resident of Tri Nagar, said that he didn’t want to get challaned. He was going to Kirti Nagar from Pitampura when the incident took place,” the official said.
