Custom-made to perfection
Have you ever felt on top of the world? Or how about getting swept off your feet? Thanks to personalised gifts like monogrammed towels or bedsheets, engraved jewellery and watches, or even signature perfumes or holidays created only for you, the sky is the limit. From made-to-order paintings to exclusive meals to a tune composed especially for you, even you can get royal ‘red carpet’ treatment.
Niraj Harlalka, founder, companystore.in, feels that there are people who have the money but lack the time to go about doing it. “You can nurture a bond that already exists between people. They should leave lasting imprints in the minds of those who matter and should have an emotional quotient, alongwith the exclusivity and price tag. A ‘We Salute You’ gifting package for Ratan Tata, Azim Premji and other head honchos who wanted to gift those to their well-wishers was highly appreciated as the package had special coffee beans and high-end engraved timepieces. Another one was a Quill Stylus in silver that cost around `80,000 and was embellished with stones with a message. Personalised gifting for those in the top league who don’t have the time is the next big thing. It could be a catalogue of gifts like high-end cars, diamond jewellery like Cartier, watches and other products (that can be selected) and personalised and can range from a few lakhs onwards.”
“Personalised gifting has been around for ages. However, gifts with names and special messages are metamorphosing to gifts with a hidden message,” feels Shylesh Jain of TotallyHotstuff, adding, “Many companies like Apple offer a service to personalise gifts with messages engraved behind iPads and iPods. If you travel abroad, there’s Build-A-Bear that goes one step ahead and helps you personalise your teddies right from its stuffing, clothing and name. Not just for your sweetheart, the messages can be meant even for your mom, dad, brother, sister or a dear friend.”
There are also gifts that tell a story. Neha Arora of The Yellow Cycle shares how couples are going out of their way to personalising to cherish their special moments. “Aphrodisiac evenings that cost `28,000 are quite popular, where the couple is picked up in a sedan and taken to a spa for a massage session. They get a private room and this also includes a seven-course meal at a popular restaurant. A few couples also indulge in Microlight experience which can be personalised with message cards.”
Samir Saraiya, founder of thatspersonal.com, feels that people get confused when buying wedding gifts or gifts for their special someone and consultancy is important to customise a bouquet of gifts that are special and have meaning. It’s a time when graphic designers are shelling out creative concepts. They don’t come cheap, but when it’s for someone special, shouldn’t it be priceless? From a few thousands to even a few lakhs, it’s the thought and innovation that counts. Money, of course, comes a close second.
