Swiss watchmakers have reason to smile. Exports of luxury timepieces from their beautiful country, renowned for its finest watches — accounted for £13.6 billion last year.

Ever since sexy footballer David Beckham was signed as the face of the advertising campaign for the Breitling brand, it has upped the glam quotient of this brand.
Visitor numbers at the recent Geneva trade fair in 2012 were up by 10 per cent. And naturally more watches will sell this year.
Industry experts say celebrity endorsements are a major factor in the continued allure of watches. It’s not just Beckham but even actress Cameron Diaz wears a Tag Heuer. Closer home in India, SRK also endorses Tag Heuer, while Aishwarya Rai promotes Longines, her hubby Abhishek Bachchan has been endorsing Omega.
It pays to be a celeb coz’ music mogul Jay-Z was reportedly given a £2.7million Hublot on his 43rd birthday last month by his wife Beyonce.
