Grande GRANTH
A designer cannot help taking inspiration from things around. Everything we see or feel influences our work. We realised that spirituality inspires us in myriad ways and some of the influences can be seen in our designs. So we decided to make products dedicated to Sikh spirituality.
From a tiny little keychain, car hangings, T-shirts, clutches, home décor items, and pottery to huge showpieces, we have designed many products inspired from holiness. We have also tried to add elements of calligraphy into our pieces.
For us designing is not just about making interesting things. But it also can be a way to understand our roots and ourselves.
There are many designers we feel inspired by but one of our most favourite designers is Ray Meeker. He is one of the best-known handmade stoneware creators. He designs pottery in the most artistic manner. We have been to his workshop and have seen him moulding the clay in some of the best forms and shapes. He doesn’t use much machinery and gives even the simplest of things, like a cup, something special. Sometimes he uses colours but even without colour, his pottery is unique because of the interesting elements, forms, textures and ideas he puts into it.
His work is very energetic and lively. He has also used Japanese art on many of his creations. His work has been exhibited in many galleries across the country. Some of his finely designed and painted tea sets, décor items, and sculpture collections are just awesome. His work, to us, is a form of poetry and almost spiritual.
