A meticulous traveller

I recently visited the United Kingdom, but it was mostly for work and not really a vacation. It was a four-city tour as the television programme Saraswatichandra was the most popular Indian show in the UK. I really loved visiting Leicester, London, Manchester and Birmingham. The best part was meeting different kinds of people in all these cities.

Every city had a different tinge to it. For instance, London had a mélange of people from different Asian countries — they are happy to meet you but don’t go all out for it. On the contrary, Leicester had a lot of Gujaratis, who were very expressive and went all out. Manchester also had a mixed crowd, but I simply loved Birmingham, which was filled with Punjabis. Since I am a Punjabi, I really had a good time — it was very lively and full of fun.
Speaking about vacations, I am someone who likes it all planned out in advance. If I am going on a holiday, everything is booked in advance and I know what I would be doing on each day at a particular destination. Sometimes, my friends ask me why I am so meticulous, but that’s just the way I function.
The last vacation that I really enjoyed was a visit to Thiruvananthapuram. I really loved the Kovalam beach — it was so peaceful and serene. And, it was such a beautiful place! I also remember yet another favourite holiday, which was in Mauritius. I was there for a shoot and decided to stay on. The beach was glorious and we visited all the local attractions. I relaxed and also participated in a bit of water sports. It was a fun vacation with my friends.
If there’s one destination that I have really wanted to visit, it is Switzerland! I’ve seen it in films. It’s simply beautiful.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
