‘Only Oxford Street for Me’

1.jpg

London is my favourite city. I have studied there, I have so many friends there. So I love to pack my bags and fly off every two or three months. My best friend, who is from Pakistan, waits for my arrival, and is always surprised to discover fans there who have missed me.

Fans surely keep me out of depression for we actors live for being applauded for our work. If I had no fans, I would die!
I buy all my clothes in London, I shop for perfumes, my make-up, shoes and other essentials from Oxford Street only, which is like Delhi for me. I do not crave designer clothing. I hate to wear jewellery, and so I hardly shop for accessories. I can buy things there at affordable prices. I visit different restaurants, especially to taste my favourite food — pizza.
I can walk down London streets in my ganjis, shorts and chappals. I love to be dressed casually, but I find it amazing that people recognise me even though I am not wearing glamorous clothes.
Yes, I do feel great to be complimented on my work. People, the NRIs especially, are die-hard fans of Hindi films, which are a global attraction.
I also love to go to Goa and the Kerala beaches to enjoy the pleasant feel of the environment and taste the delicious nariyal pani there. Getting acknowledged by fans everywhere gives me a different high.
I will be visiting Hyderabad this year for the first time for Habib Faisal’s film. We are shooting there, and I will definitely enjoy the yummy Hyderabadi biryani.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
