Tradition in tucks
I have always been inspired by the traditional. Be it patterns, material or style, the conventional has always appealed to me. There is a certain charm and elegance one can exude while sporting these prints. The way I perceive it, these designs are like wearable art.
Each collection has been inspired by a particular era and events surrounding it. It’s a way of showing how life influenced fashion and style.
Some of my biggest influences are Balenciaga and Madam Vionnet. I would much rather add personalised elements to my work than emulate what’s already there. I usually alternate between prints and materials. Sometimes, I even experiment with drapes, tucks and pleats. I weave in architectural aspects to my designs too. The number of influences vary and I usually keep my eyes open for even the slightest inspiration.
Some of my collections feature pop art, optical art, the 1950s Hollywood cinema, avant garde fashion and the like. One of my favourite collections till date is inspired by a children’s book called The Secret Garden.
