‘Don’t want to chase too many runs’
Bengaluru, Oct. 12: He may be getting older but his hunger for runs never seems to recede. Sachin Tendulkar added one more to his long list of records in the ongoing Test against Australia by becoming the first ever batsman to score 14,000 Test runs.
And the batting maestro was humble as ever of his achievements. “Every player is a student of the game. You remain a student life-long. We have to take the effort to learn irrespective of the result and then you would not worry about how X, Y and Z will react. I always tried my best to contribute. And I will not compromise on that,” said Tendulkar, looking fresh as ever, despite having spent nine hours batting for his masterful 214.
Tendulkar has made run-making appear much simpler than it actually is. In fact 2010 has been one of his best with him accruing 1,217 runs in Tests at an average of 93.61. So has he got better with the age? “Honestly, I haven’t done anything differently. I am hitting more balls now. Gary (Kirsten, Indian coach) has helped me and the whole team,” Sachin said. On the second Test, which is evenly poised, Tendulkar said the Indians would like to chase a minimum target. “It’s going to be a big day for us tomorrow. It’s all about how we apply ourselves. The lower the target the better,” he said.
