‘MNS not to oppose Pakistan team’
Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday said that his party would not oppose the Pakistani cricket team during the ongoing World Cup.
Shiv Sena, Raj's former party, had earlier indicated that it could create trouble if Pakistani team reaches the final, and plays at Wankhede stadium here. Sena supremo Bal Thackeray will decide whether to allow them to play here; senior leader Manohar Joshi had said.
But talking to reporters today, Raj said: "How can one oppose India-Pakistan match when the other country is the member of the (ICC) World Cup?"
An individual India-Pakistan match, and both teams playing in the World Cup together were separate issues. It was obvious that Pakistan would play in the World Cup, Raj said.
The final match is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on April 2, at Wankhede.
