Academy: Sreesanth wants free land
S. Sreesanth, the only Kerala cricketer to don Indian colours in the country's World Cup team, hopes to establish a cricket academy, if the state government turns benevolent.
“If I happen to get land from the government, I would love to start an academy and help the youngsters,” he told Deccan Chronicle.
He, however, added that he did not want to make his ambition a controversy.
Sreesanth first revealed his wish at a reception organised by the Vypeen Cricket Academy on Tuesday, when a boy asked him about the possibility of youngsters getting chances to prove their calibre when cricket was becoming a costly affair. Pat came the belligerent pace bowler's reply: “I have plans to set up a cricket academy for the children in Kerala and if the state government gives me a reward (land) I will use it for this.”
A Kerala Cricket Association official said, “Cricketers are earning a lot of money through match fee, advertising, modelling and auctions. However, a state honour is something you can’t afford to give a miss.”
