Bhajji doffs hat to on-high Zak

Hyderabad, Nov. 13: He went wicketless on Day One but spun a web around the opponents the next day, taking 4/76 to restrict the Kiwis, but Harbhajan Singh still feels there is work left to be done.

“I am satisfied with my own performance. We are in a good position at the moment,” Harbhajan said at the end of the day’s play.

The fiesty spinner from Jalandhar praised Zaheer Khan’s brilliant effort in the morning session. “The spell of Zak where he took two quick wickets brought us back in the game. He has been in tremendous form and has been a consistent performer for us,” he said.

The off-spinner was upset at Virender Sehwag missing out on a hundred. “We were disappointed at Viru missing out on a century. His innings along with Gambhir has set the tone for us in the first innings,” he said.

On the target for Day Three, Bhajji said, “I hope Sachin (Tendulkar), Rahul (Dravid), Dhoni and Suresh (Raina) help us get past their total. Once we do that, we will be in a position to call the shots.”

He commended the wicket at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium and said, “There was good bounce and it had something for everyone.”

On what constitutes a sporting wicket, Bhajji said, “It must have bounce. It must bring in a good tussle between the bat and the ball. From the third day onwards, there should be some turn.”

He also mentioned that the best wicket he played in recent times was the one at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium (against Sri Lanka) last year.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
