Cameron White showed what he’s capable of: Lehmann
Having finally racked up their first win in the season with an 18-run win over Pune Warriors here on Friday, Deccan Chargers coach Darren Lehmann expressed confidence that the side could get their campaign back on track.
“This win took long, but we showed on Thursday that we are as good as any other team in the IPL. I’m sure we can carry on the form and deliver a few more upsets now,” said Lehmann after the match.
Chargers had lost five games on the trot and only managed a single point before Thursday’s win after the away game against the Kolkata Knight Riders last week was abandoned. But Lehmann said he never gave up hope. “We needed a bit of luck and some presence of mind.
We should have won against Mumbai we know that, we should have beaten Delhi comfortably and we didn’t do that.
We have learnt from our mistakes as a group, and we are better for it. There was pressure on us, but there was never any self doubt.”
Lehmann gave credit to Cameron White who finally found form with a 46-ball 78 and helped set up the win.
“He’s been getting off to starts and playing reasonably well in the last couple of knocks, but he backed himself fully today and showed what he can really do.
His knock gave us a total that was really competitive and probably 20 more runs than we really needed.
Lehmann said they had decided to rest their premier pace bowler Dale Steyn, and play Rusty Theron, because of the pitch.
