Charger shines in UK league
Deccan Chargers player Anirudh Singh is doing his club, state and country proud with prolific performances in league cricket in the United Kingdom.
Anirudh, who plays for Backworth Cricket Club in Northumberland and Tyneside senior league in Newcastle, has been impressive this season. So far, he has belted a century besides seven half-centuries.
Having played 10 matches, the left-handed batsman has aggregated 663 runs at a jaw-dropping average of 110.5.
The knocks have been instrumental in Backworth dominating the cricket league.
That’s not all. Anirudh shone with the ball as well. Bowling his off-spinners, the 30-year-old has caused havoc among the opposition ranks.
Anirudh has taken 31 wickets so far. His best bowling performance was when he scalped six wickets conceding just 29 runs. His tally of 31 includes four five-wicket hauls, which is astonishing for a bowler who is used to turning his arm over only on rare occasions in domestic cricket back in India. The economy rate of 2.87 too is impressive by any standard and having taken 36.47 per cent of wickets earned by his team, Anirudh surely stands a chance to be counted as an allrounder.
Anirudh, an ICL player, stormed into the Deccan Chargers’ team after having caught coach Darren Lehmann’s attention by smashing a whirlwind half-century for a hurriedly put together Hyderabad XI against the IPL-2 champions in a practice match in Hyderabad, before IPL-3 began.
