Crafty Kaneshkk cracks the whip

Hyderabad, Nov. 17: Fast bowler Kaneshkk Naidu turned the heat on Tripura to give Hyderabad the advantage on the first day of their Ranji Trophy Plate division league match at the Gymkhana ground here.

Tripura stuttered to 122 for 6 in the 54 overs possible on Wednesday. Kaneshkk made good use of the overcast conditions to move the ball around and baffle batsmen with alarming regularity. Playing only his third first class match, the 20-year-old took four wickets conceding 25 runs to wreck the visitors.

Wet outfield due to overnight rain made no play possible in the first session. Kaneshkk was all fire after lunch, launching a triple blow on the Tripura top order to leave it reeling at 42 for 3.

It was soon 70 for 5 as off-spinner Ahmed Quadri sent back Debabrata Chowdhury while Kaneshkk struck yet again to have the seasoned Wilkin Mota caught by Vihari for a duck.

Opener Rajib Saha then put up some resistance in the company of captain Rajib Dutta via a 38-run partnership for the sixth wicket before the former departed, caught by captain Ravi Teja off left-arm spinner Lalith Mohan.

At close of play, Dutta had made 17 and was battling with tailender Timir Chanda (4 not out) to pull his side out of trouble. It seems unlikely that he will succeed though.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
