Dalmiya names Patel as new secretary

Baroda Cricket Association secretary Sanjay Patel will replace Sanjay Jagdale as secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, interim president Jagmohan Dalmiya announced in Kolkata on Thursday.

However, as reported in this paper, the BCCI is yet to find a taker for the post of treasurer, which fell vacant following the resignation of Ajay Shirke of the Maharashtra Cricket Association in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal that has enveloped the Indian Premier League, and its fallout.
According to Dalmiya, the post of treasurer would be filled in with a day or so with Karnataka Cricket Association treasurer T. Venkatesh tipped to take Shirke’s place. A technicality — Venkatesh’s not having attended a BCCI AGM - is said to be holding up the announcement but the veteran administrator, who enjoys the reputation of being efficient and upright, will in all probability be named officially on Friday.
Jagdale and Shirke handed in their resignations over sitting BCCI chief N. Srinivasan’s reluctance to step aside following the arrest of his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan on charges of betting.
Dalmiya, who has been handed charge of the Board till the probe into complaints against Meiyappan, CSK and the Rajasthan Royals, is completed, on the day said that in no BCCI member would be part of the inquiry commission.
Retired Madras high court judges T. Jayaram Chouta and R. Balasubramaniam will form the two-member commission. Both judges were members of the original panel, which also had Jagdale as the third member.
“I have decided that let there be a two-man commission. We repose full faith in the two retired judges and leave the matter to them. These two judges will carry on the probe,” Dalmiya said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
