DAV College roll over Rizvi boys
DAV College from Chandigarh beat Mumbai’s Rizvi College by four wickets in a tense final of the Red Bull College Cricket in India championship in Mysore on Saturday and will represent India in the World Series Championship.
The competition originally began with 57 colleges from 12 cities and DAV, Chandigarh, will now meet teams from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, Australia, and Bangladesh in Bengaluru, in a T20 format in the international competition.
Rizvi College posted 152/7 after being invited to bat thanks to Sumit Ghandijaankar’s 34 runs in just 17 balls , in reply to which the Chandigarh team reached the target with four wickets in hand. Jaskaran Sohi gave his side the early momentum with 35 from 27 balls.
Commenting on the final, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja, said, “It’s great to see good quality cricket at college level being supported. These athletes are talented and are getting an international platform to showcase their talent.
“A tournament like this is a great opportunity for young talent and acts as a milestone for them, to play for the Indian team, in the future.
“I am looking forward to the world finals now.”
Five outstanding players will also be selected from the India finals for the development squad of IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders.
